
The Trait du Nord is a powerful and gentle draft horse from northern France, with a history shaped by the needs of agriculture and industry in the region. Mares average 16.2 hands (168 cm) and stallions 17.1 hands (175 cm), weighing between 850 and 1,000 kg (approximately 1,900–2,200 lbs). The breed comes in a variety of coat colors, including bay, black, chestnut, gray, and roan. Officially managed by the Syndicat d’Élevage du Cheval Trait du Nord since 1903.
