Did You Know?
Horses were accidentally fenced into the Theodore Roosevelt National Park in the early 1950’s.
For at least a century horses lived wild in the rugged area of the Little Missouri Badlands.
In the 1980's two brothers, Frank and Leo Kuntz started buying horses from the National Park Service round ups in order to save the horses from slaughter.
Blue roan is the hallmark color of the breed, but they also come in a wide variety of other colors and patterns.
There are less than 1,000 Nokota horses worldwide.
The Nokota was also featured in my rare horse breed article on Horse Rookie.
