Q. How many breeds are there?
A. There are approximately 350 different breeds.
Q. How do you decide what is a breed versus a type?
A. The Official Breed Definition for the Quest:
”Animals that, through selection and breeding, have come to resemble one another and pass those traits uniformly to their offspring. A breed is a group of domestic animals, termed such by common consent of the breeders and with an active association or registry working to manage and conserve the breed.”
Q. How did you come up with the Idea?
A. I have been planning and dreaming about this quest for over a decade. We each only have one life to live, and I decided that I wanted to become the first person to ride and document every breed. Throughout my life I have been very lucky to work with a wide variety of different breeds which is how the concept started. I want to share the story of these passionate horse people that dedicate their lives to preserving and promoting these amazing animals.
Q. How do you fund the quest?
A. I eat a lot of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches! Right now most of the quest is personally funded. Meaning I work at home and save up money and then head out for trips to film. I have recently launched a Patreon page, which is a membership platform that connects creators directly with their fans. I share quest updates, behind-the-scenes, bonus videos, bloopers, interviews, and credits on the videos. Starting at $1 a month it helps me to cover the costs so I can feature more breeds and horse owners.
Q. What camera do you use?
A. I started with a GoPro Hero 5 and a Karma Grip for stabilization. I now also use a Sony a6500 and a Zhiyun Crane v2.
Q. Have you fallen off yet?
A. No falls from the quest - YET. Ive promised my eQuestrians on Patreon that they will all get to see and hear about it when it happens… :)
