About The Breed

The Cavallo Agricolo Italiano da Tiro Pesante Rapido, or CAITPR, is Italy’s heaviest draft horse breed, known for its impressive strength and calm temperament. Originating from the Verona province in northern Italy, often called the cradle of the breed, the CAITPR is built like a tank, standing between 155 and 165 cm tall and weighing around 900 kilos. They are most often chestnut in color but can be other colors as well as roan.

The CAITPR is a versatile working horse used in low-impact agriculture, forestry, therapeutic riding, equestrian tourism, and even draft horse agility. The breed plays a vital role in preserving Italy’s native genetics and rural traditions. Today, about 8,000 registered horses and 150 active stallions remain. Passione CAITPR is the National Breed Association and works to ethically promote and preserve the breed—both in Italy and abroad.
