About The Breed

The Boulonnais is a rare draft horse from northern France, known for its striking grey coat, elegant strength, and distinctive, high-set head and neck. Standing between 155 and 180 cm (about 15 to 17.3hh) and weighing 600–900 kg (1,300–2,000 lbs), this breed was historically used to transport goods quickly, including fresh fish, and for fieldwork. Today, most Boulonnais remain in France, though some can be found in places like the United States and Sweden.
